Tough discussions took place behind the scenes – Ilves tore up the power forward’s contract!
Ilves has decided to terminate the contract of forward Samuli Ratinen by mutual agreement. The contract, originally valid until the end of the 2026–2027 season, now ends prematurely as a result of post-season discussions.
Ratinen, 28, represented Ilves for three seasons from 2023 to 2026. He played 135 regular-season games in the Liiga, scoring 19+50=69 points. In the playoffs, he accumulated 24 games and scored 6+3=9 points. During his years with Ilves, he was part of the team that won the SM bronze in the spring of 2025.
The club’s sports director Timo Koskela described the decision as mutually considered.
– Based on our post-season discussions, we have now mutually agreed that terminating our contract is a sensible solution for both parties at this moment. We thank Samuli for his work for Ilves and wish him all the best for the future, Koskela commented in a statement.
Ratinen also mentioned that the decision came through discussions and thanked the club for his time in Tampere.
– In the discussions held after the season with the head coach and the sports director, we evaluated the upcoming season, and as a result, we have now mutually agreed on this solution. I warmly thank the Ilves organization and the entire club community for my years in Tampere, says Ratinen.
