The Kärpät goalkeeper Niklas Rubin honors his family and roots in the design of his mask. The most personal detail of the mask, showcased in Leppänen’s league plate, can be found on the back.

There, Rubin’s Otto son is holding the tractor’s steering wheel. Riding along is the dog Dallas, and the letter P on the balloon refers to his Pauline wife.

The tractor did not end up on the mask by chance. Rubin grew up in a farming family in Fjärås, about a half-hour drive from Gothenburg.

– I was in his (father’s) tractor almost every day and enjoyed it. It was a slightly different growing environment than many of my friends had, Rubin told Kaleva.

Now the familiar vehicle from his childhood is present at the Kärpät goal – the driver’s seat in the mask’s image has just been replaced by his own son.

Ihastellaanko hetki tätä Rubinin maskia 🥹🤩

Farmariperheessä varttunut Rubin kertoi Kalevan haastattelussa halunneensa kunnioittaa juuriaan @OulunKarpatFi -maskissaan. Maskin takaosaan on maalattu kuva Otto-pojasta, joka ajaa traktoria. Kyydissä on mukana Dallas-koira.
