HIFK’s goalkeeper Hugo Alnefelt has dropped out of the lineup at the last moment before tonight’s match against KalPa. The responsibility for saves shifts to 18-year-old Vili Varonen.

Alnefelt was still marked in the playing lineup earlier in the afternoon. Now Varonen has to step in goal for only his second Liiga match. He has not yet played in the Liiga this season.

The backup goalkeeper is also coming from outside HIFK: Severi Auvinen from Kiekko-Vantaa has been summoned for the task.

Alnefelt’s absence is a severe blow for HIFK. The Swede has played excellently in recent matches and kept the team afloat, including in Thursday’s Stadin derby, where Jokerit won in overtime 3–2.

Varonen has saved with a 91.4 percent success rate in the junior SM-liiga this autumn. Now he faces a sudden leap into HIFK’s goaltending responsibilities.

HIFK was already without the club’s other Swedish goalkeeper Tim Juel.

The match between HIFK and KalPa starts in Helsinki at 18:00.
