The league bottom team went on a raid – caught a Kärpät forward!
Vaasan Sport announces that it has signed a two-year contract with forward Benjamin Pietilä.
The 19-year-old Pietilä moves to the Vaasa team from Oulun Kärpät, where he has played a total of 43 games in the Liiga over the last two seasons, scoring 3+3 points.
Pietilä has been part of the Finnish U20 national team squad this season, which is led by Sport’s head coach Lauri Mikkola. The Kärpät product was close to making the World Championship team at the turn of the year.
Mikkola sees a lot of potential in the young forward.
– Pietilä is a young guy who broke into Kärpät’s regular lineup in the Liiga last season. A very energetic player who brings strong skating and action to the game.
– A player with potential who can definitely develop further from here. He has been part of the scoring unit and the leadership group in youth teams, and I am familiar with him from the youth national team.
