Oulu’s Kärpät has suffered a severe loss. Goaltender Niklas Rubin is leaving the club at the end of the season. The news was reported by the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

According to Expressen, Rubin is set to receive a massive paycheck from one of the Czech Republic’s top league clubs next season. Rumors suggest that the Swedish goalie has been offered a net salary of 200,000 – 250,000 euros.

Rubin and Kärpät have an option in their current contract for next season as well. It seems that it will not be exercised. Kärpät’s sports director Kimmo Kapanen is already looking for a replacement for Rubin.

This season, Rubin has played 25 games for Kärpät. His save percentage has been 90.0, which is still a good level considering the defensive play of the Oulu team.
