Mitch Marner delivers a cutting remark to Toronto – reveals the reason for the move to Vegas
The most significant NHL trade at the end of July was the long-time star forward Mitch Marner moving to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The skilled player, who set a career-high of 102 points in the last regular season, has now justified his move to Las Vegas.
“Leaving Toronto was a very difficult decision. I didn’t believe this day would come,” Marner begins.
“This option seemed to suit my wife and our newborn son very well. The team’s potential to win played a big role in making the decision. We have great players here. Fortunately, everything fell into place because this was really the place we wanted,” Marner explains.
Marner also praised the atmosphere at the Golden Knights’ home arena and the fans in a way that could be read as a clear jab at his old team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“T-Mobile Arena is amazing, the vibe here is insane. The atmosphere when you walk onto the ice and even just during warm-ups… The love that the fans show towards the team is something special,” Marner takes a dig at the Leafs.
Marner’s new contract is eight years long and ensures the star player hefty annual earnings of 12 million dollars.
