Julius Hermonen will continue with Kärpät next season as well. The Oulu-based club announced on Monday that they have signed a one-year extension with the 29-year-old forward. The contract includes a mutual option until the national team break in November.

Hermonen is a product of Kärpät’s own youth system. With the exception of a brief stint with Ilves last autumn, he has played his entire Liiga career in Kärpät’s jersey.

Sports director Kimmo Kapanen believes the forward will be an important part of the team’s overall structure for the upcoming season.

– Julius had a strong finish to the season and found his role well within the team. We saw that there is a good opportunity to continue from where we left off last season. He is a skating player who brings mobility to the team as well as important skills not only for five-on-five play but also for penalty killing, Kapanen says in the club’s statement.

Hermonen played a total of 54 regular season games last season, recording 7+6=13 points.
