Ilta-Sanomat reports that Swedish defender Hugo Gabrielson is moving to HPK for the next season. The 23-year-old Gabrielson played this past season with Nybro Vikings in Sweden’s second tier.

Gabrielson recorded 32 points with 11 goals and 21 assists in 48 games and was one of the best offensive defenders in the league. He was also Nybro’s most effective defender and ranked third in the team’s internal scoring list.

The defender has over 200 games of experience in HockeyAllsvenskan during his career. He was drafted into the NHL in 2021 in the sixth round by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

There will be quite a flow of players from Sweden’s second tier to HPK for the next season. According to IS, in addition to Gabrielson, goaltender Jacob Crespin and forwards Connor MacEachern and Ethan De Jong will also be coming to Hämeenlinna.
