In Sweden, there is a stir - Direct words to the Lions' star goalkeeper: "He is ruining this sport"

The goalkeeper Emil Larmi, known from the Lions, has found himself in a war of words in Sweden.

The team Larmi represents, Färjestad, faced Djurgården in the SHL on Saturday. In the match, Djurgården’s 19-year-old Swedish forward Victor Eklund skated in front of Larmi’s goal area and lightly bumped into Larmi. Larmi fell to the ice during the incident. Eklund accused Larmi of diving. No penalties were given to either player for the incident.

The teams met again on Tuesday, and the events from Saturday were still fresh. Eklund had some direct words for Larmi’s actions.

– He is ruining this sport. If it feels good to him, then good for him, Eklund said to Expressen.

Larmi himself denies diving. He sent greetings to Eklund.

– Maybe he shouldn’t be taking down an opponent. Don’t be that stupid and lazy. Do your job better. If you try to take someone down, they might fall.

Larmi was informed that Eklund said the Finnish goalie is ruining the sport.

– That’s quite funny. I don’t even know who he is, but he clearly knows who I am. That says it all. Let him enjoy his dreams; maybe one day he will grow up, Larmi said.

On Tuesday, Larmi was not on the ice, but the banter between the two continued nonetheless. Larmi yelled at Eklund from the bench. Eklund, in turn, pretended to fall in his own penalty box.

– He talks too much. He could start by stopping the diving. Let’s leave it at that, Eklund said.

Larmi briefly commented on Eklund’s gesture.

– Maybe it was slippery there.

This is not the first time Larmi has been accused of diving. He has already been penalized for diving earlier this season.

Larmi has played 15 games for Färjestad this season with a save percentage of 90.9. He has represented the Lions in the World Championships for the past three springs. He was also part of the EHT tournament in Tampere in November.
