Great sorrow: Former KalPa and Columbus forward has passed away
Former hockey player Matt Davidson has passed away at the age of 51. His employer, the Portland Winterhawks, announced the news on their website. Davidson worked with the team in player development.
Davidson is particularly remembered in Finland for his time with KalPa during the 2006–07 season. He recorded 25 points with 16 goals and 9 assists in 55 regular season games for the Kuopio team.
Playing as a forward, Davidson was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres. In the NHL, he represented the Columbus Blue Jackets during the team’s early years and played in the first three seasons of the franchise.
After his time with KalPa, Davidson continued his career in Europe. He played in Denmark and for Tingsryds IF in Sweden.
Davidson is survived by his wife and one child.
