The St. Louis Blues have called up Finnish forward Aleksanteri Kaskimäki to the NHL from the farm team for the first time.

Kaskimäki, 21, is the Blues’ 3rd round pick (#73) from 2022. He is playing his second season in North America, where he has been competing with the AHL team Springfield Thunderbirds so far.

This season, Kaskimäki has scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 16 AHL games. Last season, he played 63 regular season games with 11 goals and 23 assists for a total of 34 points, and three playoff games without any points.

Before moving to North America, Kaskimäki represented HIFK. He played in the Liiga for three different seasons.

The reason behind Kaskimäki’s NHL call-up is also unfortunate injury news, as Blues forwards Jimmy Snuggerud and Alexei Toropchenko will be sidelined.

Snuggerud will undergo surgery due to a wrist injury. He has been placed on the injured list and his situation will be reassessed in six weeks. Toropchenko, on the other hand, will be out for weeks after suffering burns to his legs in a home accident.
