Finnish defender got himself suspended in Sweden – hockey legend’s direct words: “A pathetic and selfish act”
The SHL’s disciplinary committee has ruled that HV71’s Finnish defender Axel Rindell will serve a two-game suspension.
Rindell was thrown out of Sunday’s game against Leksand in the first period. He hit Leksand’s Michael Lindqvist in the face with a cross-check. Lindqvist had previously slashed HV71’s goalie Felix Sandström on the hands, which made Rindell angry and he retaliated.
TV4’s expert and Swedish defense legend Staffan Kronwall had strong words about Rindell’s action.
– A really poor and selfish act. He puts his team in a bad situation, Kronwall said according to Aftonbladet.
HV71 and Leksand are playing in the relegation playoff series. The match ended with HV71 winning 3-1, taking a 3-0 lead in the series. Four wins will secure a spot in next season’s SHL. The loser of the series will be relegated to Allsvenskan.
Rindell recorded 36 points in 52 games during this season’s regular season with 10 goals and 26 assists.
