Expressen: The Finnish defender of SHL made a decision about his future – several teams were left empty-handed!
Finnish defender Eemil Viro, 24, playing for SHL team Malmö Redhawks, is set to continue his career with the current club next season.
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Viro and Malmö have reached an agreement on a contract extension. The Finnish defender has attracted interest from several other SHL teams, but has decided to stay in Malmö, according to the paper.
Malmö’s sports director Oscar Alsenfelt does not, however, confirm the agreement.
– We are discussing with some players and agents. That’s really all I have to say at the moment, Alsenfelt commented to Expressen.
When asked about Viro, Alsenfelt replied briefly:
– Nothing is finalized.
Viro moved to Malmö last season from the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins. He has risen to an important role in the Swedish team’s defense and has played alongside Oliwer Kasken.
Last season, Viro recorded 16 points (5+11) in 52 regular-season games in the SHL. This season, he has collected three points (1+2) in 14 games.
