Tappara reacts to its goaltending situation – Finnish name returns to Liiga!
Tappara has strengthened its goaltending department by acquiring Henri Kiviahon, 32, into its ranks. The Tampere club announces that it has signed a contract with Kiviahon valid until November 28.
Kiviaho has played the early part of the season in the multinational ICEHL league with the Austrian Graz99ers. He played five games for the club with a save percentage of 90.8.
– Our goaltending situation is a bit challenging and we have a tight game rhythm continuing after the break, so we needed a partner for Juha Metsola who can share the load. We are pleased to have Henri Kiviahon join the team. Henri is an experienced goaltender with good game feel from the last month. He will complement our goaltending duo well in the coming weeks, Tappara’s GM Janne Vuorinen commented in the club’s announcement.
Kiviaho last played in the Liiga with SaiPa during the 2023-24 season. In the Liiga, he has also represented KalPa, Ilves, and Ässät. In recent years, Kiviaho has also blocked shots in Slovakia, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
Tappara’s number one goaltender Christian Heljanko has been sidelined from the lineup recently. The club also announced that its young goaltending prospect William Gammals has recovered to playing condition after a long rehabilitation period. He will start his season with the U20 team.
