Cold signal to Ottawa – another NHL superstar does not want to play for the team
The Ottawa Senators immediately initiated a search for a new star forward after the team traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers on Monday.
According to Fourth Period editor-in-chief David Pagnotta, the Senators have set their sights firmly on Dallas Stars’ Jason Robertson.
– The situation is fluid, but sources say Ottawa is making a strong push to acquire Jason Robertson. If a trade does not materialize and he becomes a restricted free agent able to negotiate on July 1, the Senators could make him a significant offer sheet, Pagnotta writes on X.
However, the potential move is overshadowed by significant uncertainty that does not bode well for Ottawa.
Sportsnet reporter Chris Johnston stated on The Chris Johnston Show that Robertson would have no interest in signing a long-term deal with a team like Ottawa. This likely dampens the Senators’ hopes regarding the Stars’ star forward.
Daily Faceoff‘s Frank Seravalli reported earlier this month that the Stars and Robertson are still far apart in contract negotiations. Robertson is seeking a fair raise from his current annual salary of $7.75 million, but Dallas GM Jim Nill is unwilling to pay the desired amount.
Robertson is rumored to be seeking an annual salary of up to $14 million, but the Stars are said to have drawn the line around $12 million. Due to the disagreements between the parties, the player is believed to be available for trade this summer.
