Canada is building a strong World Championship team – two new NHL reinforcements are joining!
The Canadian team is strengthened by two new NHL players for the spring World Championships. Winnipeg Jets forward Gabriel Vilardi and defenseman Dylan DeMelo are joining Canada’s World Championship team.
Vilardi, 26, scored a career-high points this season in Winnipeg, with 30 goals and 39 assists for a total of 69 points in 82 games. He was the team’s third-best scorer this season.
DeMelo, 32, played 82 games on the Jets’ defense with 3 goals and 16 assists for 19 points. Despite Winnipeg’s poor season, DeMelo’s plus-minus rating was +7, the best on the entire team.
Vilardi has represented Canada once before in the World Championships. That was in 2021 when Canada won the championship. DeMelo, on the other hand, has not played in the World Championships before.
Canada is assembling a strong team for the World Tournament. It has already been confirmed that Mark Scheifele, John Tavares, Robert Thomas, and Ryan O’Reilly have registered for the tournament.
He joins Mark Scheifele and Dylan DeMelo as #NHLJets playing for Canada.
