Experienced goalkeeper James Reimer, 37, has found a new team in the NHL.

TSN reporter Darren Dreger reports on X that the Ottawa Senators have made an AHL tryout contract with Reimer. According to Dreger, the Senators and Reimer will sign an NHL contract within a few days.

Before the start of the season, Reimer was on a tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs for a short time. Additionally, he just played two games for Canada at the Spengler Cup around the turn of the year. Otherwise, he has not played anywhere this season.

In his NHL career, Reimer has played a total of 525 regular season games and 11 playoff games. Besides Toronto, he has represented the San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, and Buffalo Sabres.

The Senators’ number one goalie Linus Ullmark is currently sidelined from the team’s activities for personal reasons. The team’s backup goalie this season has been Finnish Leevi Meriläinen.

The @Senators have signed veteran goalie James Reimer to an AHL PTO. Expect Reimer to report to Ottawa in a few days with an NHL contract. Ultimately, the hope is Reimer will provide good backup to Linus Ullmark when he returns from Personal
Leave.
