A stunning trick from a 17-year-old Finnish person in Sweden!
The Finnish super talent Max Westergård, 17, is impressing in Sweden.
Westergård, representing Frölunda HC, played a crucial role on Sunday when Frölunda defeated the Swiss top team Lausanne 5-2 in a CHL match. Westergård provided two assists, the first being a dazzling display of skill from the young Finn (see the video below).
– The first and second periods were not good, so I decided that I needed to improve in the third period, Westergård commented modestly to Göteborgs-Posten after the match.
Frölunda’s head coach Robert Ohlsson was impressed by Westergård’s performance.
– Westergård played brilliantly in the third period. His first two periods were not the best, but we saw some great goals in the third, Ohlsson says.
Born in 2007, Westergård sensationally rose to Frölunda’s regular lineup during last spring’s playoffs. The Finnish talent played four regular season games in the SHL last season without scoring points and 11 playoff games with a total of 1+2.
– He is extremely fast, a great skater, and very proactive. This is the kind of Max we want to see more of, the Frölunda coach says.
Westergård is a 5th-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers from last summer. The forward from Tampere will turn 18 this coming Wednesday.
