Viaplay expert Ville Nieminen commented on Norway’s historic bronze at the World Championship and the team’s sensational performance against Canada, where the decision was made in overtime. According to Nieminen, the match particularly highlighted the brave emergence of Norway’s young players.

Nieminen described the match as eventful and somewhat even peculiar, but emphasized that the final result was ultimately deserved.

– This was their greatest achievement in ice hockey. The match had many comical moments, but the better team won. A team that was at the limits of their abilities, that’s why they were also lucky today, Nieminen said in Viaplay’s broadcast right after the game.

At the same time, he pointed out the difficulties faced by Norway’s more experienced players in the match. Several veteran players were ultimately subdued, and they were on the ice during Canada’s late equalizing and winning goals.

– They wanted to rely on experienced players, but when those experienced players didn’t perform well in this game either, Nieminen criticized Norway’s veteran players before overtime.

Instead, Norway’s younger players emerged as the successful ones, who decided the match with several important goals. Stian Solberg, Emilio Pettersson, and Noah Steen all succeeded in scoring, and their contributions turned the game in Norway’s favor.

Nieminen saw the match’s outcome as a sign of a broader change in Norwegian ice hockey, where the focus is shifting to a younger generation.

– Important things for Norway. Now they can start building their future on the young ones. Right from the start, they had control of the game when the young players were on the ice.

Particular praise was given to Noah Steen, who scored the winning goal, for whom “Nemo” expects a bright future.
