Urheilucast: Valtteri Puustinen leaves the NHL – transfer to a surprising Liiga team in progress
This season, completely without NHL responsibility, Valtteri Puustinen is returning to Europe.
According to Urheilucast, the winger currently under contract with the Colorado Avalanche is primarily looking for a playing position in Europe’s most lucrative leagues.
A return to Liiga is also possible, although the team would not be KalPa, the pride of his hometown, according to Urheilucast’s Esko Seppänen.
– “Kuopion Juti,” who has encountered an AHL team with his NHL dreams, is returning to Europe, but an interesting background fact domestically: Puustinen wants to play for HPK if nothing opens up for him from Switzerland or the SHL, Seppänen says.
However, according to Seppänen, a return to Finland is anything but certain.
– Let’s give the Kerho fans a one percent chance, but that player profile is indeed tailor-made for Switzerland, Seppänen adds.
Puustinen moved to North America from HPK for the 2021-22 season. He has played 66 NHL games in North America, all of which were with his previous team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
