Urheilucast: These Liiga clubs are pursuing Jori Lehterä – “Has already made a concrete inquiry”
Over the weekend, a big news bomb echoed from the league when Jori Lehterä announced he was retiring from his playing career.
Lehterä was not seen in HIFK’s lineup on Saturday. Later, he announced on Instagram that he would be stepping away from HIFK’s activities, but he also left the door open for a continuation of his career. Lehterä did not promise that his career was one hundred percent definitely over.
Now new information has emerged regarding Lehterä’s situation.
According to Esko Seppänen, HIFK has terminated Lehterä’s contract. Thus, the forward is free to seek a new team if he decides to continue his career.
Seppänen also mentioned that there has been movement behind the scenes regarding Lehterä since the summer.
– At least Jokerit has already made a concrete inquiry about Lehterä’s availability. Not after the retirement news, but in the summer. Jokerit had already been probing into Lehterä’s availability then.
According to Seppänen, Jokerit is not the only Liiga team linked to Lehterä.
After the retirement announcement, at least Ilves and Tappara have shown interest in the experienced forward. Lukko, on the other hand, has been involved in speculations related to Lehterä, but according to Seppänen, the interest from the Rauma club is not accurate.
Regarding Lehterä and Olli Jokinen, Seppänen made a bold claim. He stated that circles in the hockey world have known since the spring that Jokinen does not want Lehterä on his team.
