Urheilucast: Jokerit is negotiating a major NHL acquisition – A star from the Lions’ World Championship is in sight!
Urheilucastin reports that Jokerit is very close to a major player acquisition, as the club is in the final stages of negotiations for a contract with defenseman Ville Heinola. According to sources, the parties are surprisingly close to an agreement if all details can be finalized.
This would be a huge coup for Jokerit. The 25-year-old World Championship defenseman has played several seasons in North America between the AHL and NHL under the Winnipeg Jets organization.
This season, Heinola played only five games in the NHL without any points, but in the AHL, he recorded 21 points in 44 games with a score of 3+18. His development has stagnated, and his role in the NHL has remained small.
Heinola has openly discussed the stagnation of his career with Ilta-Sanomat.
– What frustrates me the most is that I feel I have never received a proper opportunity in the NHL since my first year.
Urheilucastin also reports that there is interest in Heinola from Switzerland. According to Esko Seppänen, transfer rumors from Swiss clubs usually spread quickly to the public, so the silence from that direction is seen as a positive sign for Jokerit.
