Urheilucast: Ilves was left licking its wounds – a familiar scoring machine chose a competitor’s offer
TPS secured a strong reinforcement to its ranks as forward Joona Ikonen signed a one-year contract with the club this week. However, a claim has emerged that Ikonen, who hails from Tampere, was also willing to move to Ilves.
Urheilucast Instagram stories report that the transfer ultimately fell through due to financial issues.
– Interesting fact: Everything white in this picture would be green and everything black would be yellow if Ilves’ GM Timo Koskela had been willing to compromise by 30,000 euros. He was not. Now this picture is black and white, Urheilucast wrote in the post.
The comment referred to TPS’s announcement regarding Ikonen’s contract.
The 27-year-old forward played last season in the Swedish SHL league for Malmö Redhawks. He moved to Sweden from Ilves after the 2023–2024 season.
In his last season in Tampere, Ikonen recorded 47 points with 20 goals and 27 assists in 58 games.
