Urheilucast: A top reinforcement from the NHL is available for the Lions – one thing will determine the World Championship journey
A new name is being offered for the Finnish national team, as Ville Koivunen‘s situation is tied to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ playoff run.
According to Urheilucast’s host Esko Seppänen, the coaching staff of the Lions is closely monitoring how the series between the Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers progresses. The Flyers currently lead the series 2–0, and the next game will be played tonight.
According to Seppänen, Koivunen will join the World Championships if Pittsburgh is eliminated in the first round of the NHL playoffs. The player has already been contacted regarding this matter.
Koivunen has not yet played in the playoffs for the Penguins. In the NHL regular season, he recorded 2 goals and 5 assists in 39 games.
In the AHL, playing for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, his season was significantly more productive: he scored 13 goals and 28 assists in 34 games.
A product of Oulu’s Kärpät, he has played two seasons in North America. However, the young player has not yet been seen in the World Championships.
