UC: Jokerit made a huge acquisition – now the harsh news has arrived
Helsinki Jokerit is one of the most interesting teams in the upcoming Liiga season due to their active transfer summer. However, not all names may ultimately don the clown jersey.
According to fresh information from Urheilucast, defender Olli Juolevi is not yet a confirmed addition to the Jokerit lineup – even though a contract exists.
Esko Seppänen states that Juolevi’s contract includes an overseas option, which could still change the situation.
– Juolevi has a contract with Jokerit, but it includes an overseas option. In practice, this means he can still choose to move to, for example, the Czech Republic before moving to Helsinki, Seppänen said.
Juolevi has also attracted interest abroad, and the Czech club HC Energie Karlovy Vary has been rumored to be following the defender’s situation.
Seppänen criticizes the phenomenon more broadly and highlights the change in European ice hockey culture.
– Nowadays, it is completely normal for contracts to be full of overseas options. Previously, a SM-liiga contract was the pinnacle of European hockey – take it or leave it. Now the situation has changed completely, he described.
Juolevi’s potential loss would be a significant blow to Jokerit’s defense. The 27-year-old from Helsinki, representing Tappara, played 18 regular season games with stats of 0+3. In the playoffs, he has scored one goal in eight games.
