TS: Mikko Koivu out of TPS coaching team – in comes a Liiga legend
TPS is building a new identity for the upcoming season after a disappointing Liiga season. According to Turun Sanomat, Kimmo Rintanen is joining the coaching team of head coach Toni Söderholm as a new name.
The 52-year-old Rintanen brings a vast amount of experience. As a player, he won three Finnish championships and has served as an assistant coach in Kloten, Switzerland for the last five seasons.
The man is already well acquainted with TPS, having worked in the club’s coaching staff from 2015 to 2021 and played for the team twice in the 1990s and 2000s.
Changes in TPS’s coaching staff do not only involve one man. According to Turun Sanomat, Hannes Hyvönen is also joining the club, who has been part of the coaching team of Ässät in recent seasons.
One of the assistant coaches for TPS will be Riku-Petteri Lehtonen, who was originally intended to move to the position of head coach for the club’s A-juniors next season.
This season, Mikko Koivu, who made his debut as an assistant coach, will continue with the club under the title of development director.
