TPS announced its captaincy – the gold lion gets a C on the chest
TPS announced its captaincy for the upcoming Liiga season on Thursday. The captain’s C letter will be worn by Niklas Friman, who is returning to Turku.
The 32-year-old defender, who has won World Championship and Olympic gold with the Lions, last represented TPS during the 2015-16 season. Last season, the veteran defenseman played for Swiss team HC Ajoie.
Friman has previously captained HPK and Ilves in the Liiga. The HPK defender led his team to the Finnish championship in the 2019-20 season.
Friman’s alternate captains will be the Turku native Ruben Rafkin and Otto Paajanen, who transferred to the team from KooKoo over the summer.
The Liiga regular season kicks off on September 1. TPS will host last season’s silver medalist KooKoo in the opening round.
