Tough acquisition: Mestis team strengthens with a Liiga-level player!
The Mestis team IPK announces that it has strengthened its defense with Valtteri Koskela. The 23-year-old, a product of JYP, has signed a contract that covers the remainder of the season.
Koskela played the last two seasons with Mikkelin Jukurit. His Liiga contract was terminated last week. In total, the defender played 43 games with Jukurit over two seasons, with stats of 0+4.
Koskela also spent part of the season on loan with the Hungarian team Ferencvárosi TC, where he played seven games in the multinational ICEHL league without scoring points.
− We have been following Valtteri’s situation for some time now, and it’s great that we were able to finalize the contract. With “Vallu,” we are getting a quality two-way defenseman who has proven his level in Mestis, IPK’s development manager Niko Härkönen states in the announcement.
IPK is a familiar team for Koskela, as he won the Mestis championship with the team from Iisalmi in the 2023-2024 season. He recorded 4+18 points in 53 games that season.
