Tobias Winberg, who left JYP: new team revealed!
Defender Tobias Winberg, who left JYP, is moving to the Czech top league. HC Energie Karlovy Vary announces that it has signed a one-year contract with Winberg, which includes an option for a second year.
Winberg, 27, played 53 games for JYP last season with stats of 2+15=17. JYP announced in early April that Winberg would exercise his option to leave the club.
– Tobias is exactly the kind of player we have been looking for a long time. We needed an experienced and reliable defender who can calm the team in difficult moments and, above all, is very unpleasant from the opponents’ perspective. His performances in the Finnish league speak for themselves. I believe the fans will like him – he is a professional in the true sense of the word. I am convinced that our defense will be significantly stronger with Tobias’s acquisition, commented Karlovy Vary’s sports director Jiri Kalous in the club’s announcement.
Before the past season, Winberg played one year in the SHL with MoDo Hockey. Additionally, he has been seen in recent years wearing the national team jersey in EHT tournaments.
Besides JYP, Winberg has represented HIFK in the league.
