Joensuu Kiekko-Pojat announces that they have signed a 1+1 year contract with Canadian forward Jake Smith.

The 28-year-old Smith played the beginning of the season in the Danish top league with Aalborg Pirates and was his team’s top scorer with 32 points in 22 games (17+15).

– Jake is a strong goal scorer with a top shot. He brings the necessary creativity and scoring power to the team, especially in power play situations, Kiekko-Pojat’s GM Jaakko Lipponen describes in the announcement.

Smith previously played four seasons in the ECHL, where he scored 164 points in 233 games. His most productive season was 2021–22 with the Iowa Heartlanders, where he recorded 50 points (25+25) in 52 games.

Kiekko-Pojat is three points behind second-placed IPK in the Mestis standings, with IPK having played two more games. The Mestis is led by Kiekko-Pojat’s biggest rival, Jokerit.
