The sports clearance continues – The league club has signed a championship defender!
Pori Ässät has strengthened its defense as 33-year-old Samuli Piipponen moves from Vaasan Sport to Pori on a loan agreement for the rest of the season.
This season, Piipponen has played 36 games for Sport with stats of 2+5=7. The large defender (192 cm / 91 kg) is approaching the milestone of 500 Liiga games. He also won the Finnish championship with Rauman Lukko in 2021.
– With Samuli Piipponen, we gain more fighting power and experience for the toughest games of the season. We have been searching for a defender intensively in recent weeks, and we can be very satisfied that we reached an agreement with Samuli and Sport for a loan for the rest of the season, says Ässät’s sports director Jarno Kultanen in a statement.
Piipponen will join the Ässät training group on Tuesday.
– I arrive at Ässät and Pori with good feelings. This is a great place to play hockey, and Pori is a true hockey city with a loud home crowd. From the team perspective, I feel that Ässät is at its best only in the playoffs, and we are heading into a long spring.
