The NHL team was not accepted – Tappara grabbed the Finnish champion!
The Nashville Predators decided not to offer a rookie contract to their third-round draft pick from the summer of 2022. The 22-year-old Finnish defenseman Kasper Kulonummi is now a free agent and can negotiate a contract with any NHL team if he wishes.
In March, Helsingin Sanomat reported that Kulonummi planned to move to North America for the upcoming season in pursuit of his NHL goal. However, these plans changed in May when Tappara announced that they had signed him to a two-year extension.
Kulonummi is a product of the Jokerit organization. He played for Tappara in the Liiga during the 2022–2024 seasons and won two Finnish championships with the team. For the last two seasons, he represented Kiekko-Espoo.
Kulonummi’s best point totals came in the recently concluded season. He recorded 21 points with 7 goals and 14 assists in 42 regular-season games, making him the second most effective defenseman from Espoo. In the playoffs, he scored two goals and had one assist in five games.
