The league’s top scorer was seriously injured – the audience fell silent
Luco’s star forward Alex Beaucage was injured in a serious-looking incident during Tuesday’s only Liiga match against Pelicans.
The 24-year-old Canadian forward, who is fourth in the league’s goal scoring chart with 18 goals, was caught under a clean check from Miro Väänänen, and the goal scorer had to be helped off the ice looking unresponsive after the situation that silenced the entire home crowd.
There was no further clarification on the severity of Beaucage’s injury after the match.
A longer absence for Beaucage would be a huge setback for Lukko. The Colorado Avalanche’s 3rd round draft pick has scored 32 points with 18 goals and 14 assists in 38 games this season. He is his team’s top scorer and the second most productive player right after Mikael Ruohoma.
Lukko, currently second in the league, won the match 4-3 in overtime. The loss was Pelicans’ sixth in a row.
