The league’s top scorer hits the free market – surprising departure passes have arrived!
Swedish forward Sebastian Wännström, 34, is looking for a new team.
SHL team Malmö Redhawks confirmed to the Swedish newspaper Expressen that Wännström is leaving the club prematurely.
Wännström arrived in Malmö in mid-October on a seven-week short-term contract to cover for the team’s absences. However, after four weeks, the contract was decided to be terminated at the club’s initiative.
Malmö got key players back from injury, so there was no longer room for Wännström in the playing lineup. The experienced forward played three games during his stint without scoring any points.
– We were missing players, and he did a good job for us, Malmö’s head coach Tomas Kollar praised Wännström to Expressen.
In the last two seasons, Wännström was seen in the Liiga with Vaasan Sport. Last season, he also represented the Norwegian Stavanger Oilers.
Wännström is well remembered from the Liiga season 2020-21, when he won the goal-scoring title with Ässät. The Swede scored 33 goals and 46 points in 58 games that season.
