The Golden Lion gets a new coach – NHL championship coach Claude Julien moves to Europe
The Zürich Lions, one of the top clubs in the Swiss league, has appointed a highly accomplished NHL figure as their new head coach.
The club announced on Wednesday that they have signed a two-year contract with Claude Julien, 66, who coached the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship in 2011. Julien has served as an assistant coach for the St. Louis Blues for the past two seasons.
With 17 seasons as a head coach in the NHL, Julien’s resume is impressive in international play as well. He has won gold as a coach at the World Championships, Olympic Games, and the World Cup.
In the NHL, he has been the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils.
Next season, Julien will have at least two Finnish players under his guidance. The Zürich Lions will feature Finnish players including the defender Mikko Lehtonen, who is currently celebrating his third World Championship gold, and the forward Juho Lammikko.
