TPS made a massive attachment!

TPS has made a significant commitment to its team for the upcoming season. The Turku club has signed a one-year extension with Swedish forward Lukas Wernblom.

Wernblom, 25, has represented TPS for three seasons. Last season, he scored a record 24+25=49 points in 57 games. In his first Liiga season, Wernblom scored 30 points and 44 in the following season, so his point total has increased every year.

Wernblom has been TPS’s top scorer for the last two seasons. Before his 24-goal last season, Wernblom scored 25 goals the season before. At the same time, he has established himself as one of the best penalty shooters in the Liiga.

– Lukas has been an extremely important player for us and one of the most dangerous scorers in the Liiga. We know exactly what we get from him both as a player and as a person, and that’s why his continuation was important for us. It’s great that Lukas enjoys being in Turku and with TPS, and we trust that he will once again be one of our key players in the upcoming season, says TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi in the club’s statement.

– Lukas carried a lot of responsibility for the results last season and brought competitiveness to the team every night. He is clearly one of our leading players and has proven his worth here for several years. We are really happy that we get to keep him here for the upcoming season as well. He can play in versatile roles and takes responsibility in crucial moments of the games. Lukas is a great scorer, but he can help the team in many other ways – he is a very well-rounded player. He can play on the penalty kill, and he can be relied upon in the final minutes of the game, whether the team is leading or seeking an equalizer, head coach Toni Söderholm states.
