Södertälje SK has secured a significant reinforcement for its offense, as the club signed a one-year contract with Finnish center Joni Ikonen.

The 26-year-old Ikonen is moving to Södertälje somewhat unexpectedly from rival club IK Oskarshamn, where he played effectively last season. He collected 34 points (17 goals and 17 assists) in 50 regular-season games and was the team’s third-highest scorer.

– Joni is a skilled center who can hold onto the puck and shoot effectively. He is also technically very proficient, sports director Emil Georgsson describes the new acquisition on the club’s X account.

Ikonen has previous experience in Sweden from his junior years, and in Finland, he has represented several Liiga clubs, including Kiekko-Espoo, HIFK, KalPa, Pelicans, and Ilves. He was drafted by the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens in the second round.
