JYP rose to victory against Jokerit in the SM-liiga on Saturday night. The Helsinki team led the game 3–0 in the first period and still 4–2 at the start of the final period, but JYP came back and ultimately won 5–4 in overtime. The decisive goal was scored by Leevi Tukiainen, with only 14 seconds left in overtime.

Despite the victory, JYP’s head coach Petri Matikainen received harsh criticism from Aition expert Petteri Sihvonen.

Sihvonen questioned Matikainen’s coaching skills with exceptionally harsh words. In his opinion, JYP is possibly playing the worst hockey in the entire SM-liiga.

– This was a contest between two blundering head coaches. Petri Matikainen could have his coaching license revoked, and I mean that just like elderly people have their driving licenses taken away if they fail certain tests. Matikainen’s performance tests are also failing. Without exaggeration, JYP might be playing the worst style of play in the entire SM-liiga, Sihvonen declares.

JYP is fourth in the league standings and has won two consecutive games. However, Sihvonen does not see the Jyväskylä team as a serious championship contender.

– Under Matikainen’s leadership, JYP has no reason to dream of the championship.

Also, JYP’s star forward Harri Pesonen came under Sihvonen’s criticism. The expert expected much more from Pesonen, who returned from Switzerland to Finland, but also sees issues in the team’s style of play.

– Surely someone like Harri Pesonen is wondering with a round mouth that in Switzerland they play more tactically intelligent hockey. I mistakenly thought that Pesonen was the best player in the SM-liiga, but now he is somewhere in the other positions in the scoring race. He is not very impressive either when playing this style of play, Sihvonen charges.
