Expressen: Is the Liiga club giving up on its star acquisition?
Vaasan Sport is open to parting ways with Canadian forward George Diaco, reports the Swedish newspaper Expressen.
According to the newspaper, Sport is currently exploring options to find a solution for the 24-year-old forward’s situation. The club is willing to either trade Diaco for another player or let him leave entirely. The latter option would free up funds for Sport to acquire new reinforcements.
Diaco joined Sport this season from Sweden’s second-highest league, Allsvenskan, where he played last season for Kalmar HC. He recorded an impressive 54 points in 52 regular-season games with the club.
At Sport, Diaco started his Liiga career with two goals in his first game, but since then, his scoring pace has slowed. Diaco has accumulated 3+4 points in 16 games.
The forward was also sidelined from Sport’s lineup for the match against SaiPa on October 23.
Expressen estimates that Diaco could particularly interest the top teams in Allsvenskan. The newspaper also considers it possible that an SHL team might be interested in acquiring the Canadian.
