The Lions received bad news during Tuesday’s NHL round, as the defender Niko Mikkola, selected for the Olympic team, was injured.
Mikkola, representing the Florida Panthers, had to leave the game against the San Jose Sharks during the second period and did not return. There was nothing clear in the situation that led to the injury.
The Panthers did not provide further details about the nature of Mikkola’s injury after the game. The Panthers will practice again on Wednesday.
The Lions face a serious situation in defense, as Rasmus Ristolainen is also out due to injury. Olli Määttä, on the other hand, has been absent from the NHL lineup for over a month.
