Teemu Pulkkinen wants to come to Finland – this is how the Jokerit boss commented to MTV
Finnish forward Teemu Pulkkinen stated that he wants to play in Finland next season. Currently, he is a free agent.
This season, Pulkkinen played in his home country’s leagues for the first time in a long while, starting the season with Kiekko-Vantaa in the Mestis. In October, Pulkkinen moved to the second tier in Germany for the remainder of the season.
In the Liiga, Pulkkinen has previously only represented Jokerit, where he last played in the 2012-13 season. Since then, he has played in the NHL, AHL, KHL, Germany, Slovakia, and Switzerland.
Jokerit’s sports director Olli-Pekka Yrjänheikki commented to MTV Sports about the club’s stance on Pulkkinen.
– Pulkkinen was not and will not be an interesting player for us this past season or next year. Therefore, we have not even considered acquiring him for our team, Yrjänheikki stated to MTV.
Pulkkinen’s KHL background also influences Jokerit’s decision. Pulkkinen was the only Finnish player who continued playing in the KHL when Russia had started its invasion of Ukraine.
– Of course, that also affects the overall situation, but I do not want to speculate on this matter. As a club, we have collectively decided that he does not fit into our strategy, Yrjänheikki continued.
Pulkkinen played eight games with Kiekko-Vantaa at the beginning of the season, achieving 7+1 points. In the DEL2 league, he played 29 regular season games with 10+17=27 points and three playoff games with 5+0 points.
Jokerit will play in the Liiga next season.
