Teemu Pulkkinen is accused of racism
Finnish forward Teemu Pulkkinen, 34, has found himself surrounded by accusations of racism in the German second division.
Pulkkinen was injured in a away match played on Sunday when Japanese forward Yushiroh Hirano, representing Düsseldorf EG, tackled him in violation of the rules. The German league’s disciplinary committee imposed a one-match suspension on Hirano.
German media OVB Online reported that a claim regarding Pulkkinen’s racist comment began circulating from Düsseldorf early in the week. The alleged insult was linked to a situation where Hirano lost his temper after the tackle and attempted to kick Pulkkinen with his skate. Rosenheim denied the accusations on Wednesday.
According to Rosenheim, it is unreasonable for a player to be criticized and judged publicly without an official investigation. Both the club and Pulkkinen emphasize their opposition to racism in all forms and are considering possible legal actions.
Pulkkinen joined Rosenheim in October after starting the season with the Mestis team Kiekko-Vantaa.
