Tappara’s sniper missed out on an NHL spot
Oiva Keskinen, 22, who was among Tappara’s top scorers last season, has not managed to break into the Columbus Blue Jackets’ NHL roster at least at the beginning of the new season.
Columbus announced on Friday that it had trimmed its roster before the start of the new NHL season, and one of the players sent to the AHL was Keskinen.
The Finnish forward will start his season in North America with the Cleveland Monsters.
Keskinen played last season on loan at Tappara and scored 20+17=37 points in 49 regular season games. In the playoffs, Keskinen accumulated 3+5=8 points in 17 games.
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights announced on Thursday that their first-round pick from this past summer, also a Tappara alumnus, defenseman Juho Piiparinen, 18, will be moving to the junior team London Knights, which plays in the OHL, for this season.
