The reigning master team Tappara’s start to the season in the Liiga has been sluggish. The team, burdened by CHL games, heads into the new week in 12th place in the league.

The Sports Romantic podcast host Aki Linnanahde highlights two of Tappara’s star forwards, Joachim Blichfeld and Henrik Haapala, in light of the sluggish start to the season.

– They may not necessarily be the “Kojon” (head coach Kari Jalonen) players, Linnanahde questions the duo’s suitability for Jalonen’s playing style, which has arrived at the helm of Tappara this season.

Former professional hockey player Toni Dahlman shares a similar view.

– Both are good players, but for example in Turku (against TPS) they seemed quite arrogant. There was a lot of cruising and swerving and sulking when the puck didn’t come or things didn’t go the way they wanted.

Dahlman believes that Tappara’s offense is crying out for additional reinforcements, although Benjamin Rautiaisen‘s potential return from the NHL would improve the situation.

– They definitely need to get one or two solid scorers who can consistently do the hard work and deliver results, Dahlman sees.

Linnanahde also points out the atmosphere that Jalonen has brought to the locker room.

– Life in Tappara is serious. If your coaching team is Kari Jalonen, Fredrik Norrena, and Kristian Kuusela, then there’s a bit of that wild humor missing. It’s certainly a very different atmosphere than what has been accustomed to in recent seasons, Linnanahde assesses.

In any case, the duo believes that the Tampere team’s game will find its way as the season progresses.
