Tappara defeated Ilves on Saturday in the fifth mutual semifinal match. Tappara took the victory in the first overtime with a score of 2-1 and now leads the series 3-2.
Tappara’s biggest hero was Kristian Tanus. He scored the winning goal with a beautiful tip on Aleksi Matinmikko’s shot from the blue line.
As Tappara celebrated their third victory, Ilves’ head coach Tommi Niemelä tried to turn the game around. He challenged Tappara’s winning goal as offside. The situation was tight, but ultimately the referees were able to say after a rather short review that it was not offside.
The semifinal series between Tappara and Ilves continues on Monday.
