Swedish club in player transfers – A duo familiar from the league caught!
Kalmar HC, playing in the Swedish Allsvenskan, has recruited two players familiar from the Liiga to their team. The club has signed contracts for the remainder of the season with Czech defender Andrej Sustr and Canadian forward Giorgio Estephan.
Sustr, 35, has played 11 AHL games this season with the Bridgeport Islanders, recording 0+1 points. Sustr, who was on a tryout contract with the club, was released in early December. He also had a brief tryout with the New York Rangers in the NHL during the fall.
Last season, Sustr played for Tappara. He recorded 38 regular season games in the Liiga with 1+11 points and nine playoff games without any points. Sustr has also played over 400 NHL games in his career, representing the Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks.
Estephan, 28, has not played anywhere this season yet. He represented Ässät at the end of last season, where he only managed to play eight games with 1+1 points.
In the Liiga, Estephan was also seen in JYP’s jersey at the beginning of the 2023-24 season. However, he only played eight games with 2+0 points during his time at the club.
