Jyrki Ahola’s surprise recipe for Kiekko-Espoo’s decisive match: “Let’s dance the humppa in the bus”
Kiekko-Espoo was disappointed at the Metro Arena on Saturday night, as the Pori Ässät secured their second win in the playoff series.
In overtime, chances were seen in both directions, but ultimately the visiting team made better use of theirs. Ässät now lead the series 2–0.
SuomiKiekko interviewed Kiekko-Espoo’s head coach Jyrki Aho after the match.
– In the first period, we created good chances and took the lead on the power play. In the second period, the game turned a bit the other way and after that, it was pretty even, Aho summarized.
Aho mentioned that the level of demand set by the visiting team is high in the playoffs.
– You have to fight all the time and stay alert. You need to play on the edge in every shift.
The home team, supported by the home crowd, was at times in control of the game and, after an initial surge, created several good chances even in overtime. However, Aho believes the result is not unjust.
– You get what you deserve. The scoreboard tells everything.
The next match will be played on Monday in Pori, and Kiekko-Espoo heads into the game facing a must-win situation. Aho mentions with a twinkle in his eye the way the Espoo players handle the pressure.
– We’ll go in with a cheerful mindset. We’ll dance the humppa on the bus if we can’t think of anything else.
