Vaasan Sport will change its head coach next season. According to Urheilucast, Lauri Mikkola is Doug Shedden‘s successor behind the bench for the Vaasa team.

Shedden arrived as the head coach of Sport in mid-October with a contract covering the rest of the season. The experienced Canadian took over the position from Juuso Hahl.

Urheilucast reports that several options were considered for the head coach position at Sport. One of these was Tuomo Ropo, who is leading the Finnish under-18 national team.

Mikkola has coached the Finnish under-20 national team for the past three seasons. The 44-year-old from Oulu previously worked for several years as the head coach of Oulun Kärpät’s A-juniors and as an assistant coach for the Liiga team.

Sport is currently second to last in the Liiga. The Vaasa team has won only one match out of seven under Shedden.
