The Ässät’s Swedish defender Oskar Nilsson is leaving the league at the end of this season and heading to a surprising league. The Swedish newspaper Norran reported that Nilsson will join KSW IceFighters Leipzig, who play in Germany’s third highest league, for next season.

Nilsson, 34, joined Ässät for this season and was chosen as the team’s alternate captain. He played 51 regular season games, scoring 3+5 points. In the playoffs, Nilsson has scored one goal in six games.

Before this season, Nilsson played six seasons in the SHL, five of which were with Skellefteå and one with Oskarshamn. Nilsson won the SHL championship with Skellefteå in the spring of 2024.

Before his SHL seasons, Nilsson played in Allsvenskan and in Norway’s top league.
