Columbus Blue Jackets’ Finnish forward Mikael Pyyhtiä is returning to Europe. Expressen reports that Pyyhtiä is moving to Switzerland for the next season. The exact location is not known at this stage.
According to Expressen, Rögle BK, which plays in the SHL, has also shown interest in Pyyhtiä, but everything points to Pyyhtiä’s new team being in Switzerland.
Pyyhtiä, 24, played only five NHL games this season in Columbus, scoring one goal. The majority of this season has been spent in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters, where he recorded 49 points (21+28) in 59 regular season games.
Pyyhtiä’s and Cleveland’s season in the farm league is still ongoing. So far, Pyyhtiä has recorded 1+2 points in three playoff games. His contract with Columbus ends after this season.
Columbus drafted Pyyhtiä in the 4th round in 2020. He has played a total of 71 NHL games for the team over four seasons, with 11 points (5+6). In the AHL, Pyyhtiä has played 154 games (34+62=96).
Pyyhtiä was last seen in European rinks during the 2022-23 season when he represented his youth club TPS in the Liiga.
